Managed agentic systems governance

An operating guide for production agents, prompts, models, knowledge, connectors, evaluation, incidents, cost, change, and retirement.

Temen point of view

A production agent is a changing service, not a finished deliverable. Models, prompts, knowledge, permissions, integrations, business rules, and user behavior can change independently, so the system needs an operating owner and evidence-based governance.

01

Govern the full system

The model is only one component. Governance must cover purpose, identity, sources, tools, actions, prompts, evaluations, telemetry, user experience, cost, owners, and dependencies.

  • System and dependency register
  • Approved purpose and authority
  • Knowledge and connector ownership
  • Business and technical owners
02

Separate restoration from improvement

Support restores an approved service. A controlled change modifies that service. A project creates a materially new outcome or boundary. Clear classification protects production while still allowing improvement.

  • Incident and request handling
  • Standard and normal change
  • Evaluation before release
  • Project intake for new scope
03

Keep evidence for every decision

An operating record should show what changed, why, who approved it, which evaluation ran, what was released, and how the system behaved afterward.

  • Versioned configuration
  • Evaluation and red-team evidence
  • Cost and quality trends
  • Rollback and retirement record
